Happy 2025! Here's wishing you much health, wealth, and happiness throughout this New Year and...
The hardest thing in strategy is NOT strategy. It is communication!
Effective communication is central to every high performing enterprise. From the executive suite through business units, and with teams and individuals (internal and external) is critical for sustainable results.
The last two blog posts set the stage talking about what strategy is and what it isn’t, and what an execution plan might look like. I recently came across this LinkedIn post from Alex Brueckmann. I feel its topic and 6 practices add value to our discussion of strategy.
Check it out!
6 best practices to powerfully communicate strategy:
1. OVER-COMMUNICATE
- Provide regular updates to ensure everyone is informed and aligned with the strategy.
- Encourage dialogue and feedback loops to address uncertainties.
2. INDIVIDUALIZE and listen in 1:1s
- Tailor communication to individuals’ needs and give space to process.
- Understand individual perspectives and concerns.
3. Use TEAM meetings to go deeper
- Shape collective under-standing and terminology.
- Address rumors and provide answers to burning questions.
4. Make strategy a topic EVERY DAY
- Link it to daily tasks and decision-making to reinforce alignment.
- Relate everyone’s work to strategy to create a sense of contribution and accountability.
5. MASS communicate face-to-face & digitally
- Use every possible platform and a variety of media.
- Ensure consistent messaging.
6. Use Storytelling to MAKE IT STICK
- Illustrate the journey, challenges, and successes to make strategy relatable.
- Address heart and brains to inspire commitment.
